This unique quality tea is partly green and partly oolong. The ladies of Amba pick one leaf and bud. Then, unlike most green teas, they let the leaves wither slowly overnight. Then they roll the leaves in a wok and kula basket and repeat this until the leaves are dry.

Amba Estate is an organic farm in the Uva highlands of Sri Lanka. The farm is about a 30-minute drive from Ella, located in a small valley above the Ravana-Ella waterfalls, with views of Ella Rock and Lipton’s Seat. At Amba, they produce a range of artisan teas, coffee, spices, and preserves. They partner with the local community to support a variety of educational, economic, and environmental initiatives. (10% of Amba’s turnover goes to the employees).
When in Sri Lanka you can stay overnight in the old tea bungalows on the estate, learn more about organic farming and artisan tea, and enjoy our little corner of paradise. This is definitely recommended, we really enjoyed this oasis of peace.
