This is a classic green quality tea, only the bud and one leaf is used for this tea. When the leaves come off the fields, they are immediately steamed in a traditional bamboo steamer (Pitu Bambuwa). After this, the leaves are carefully rolled manually in a “kula” basket and then dried in a wok.
This tea comes from Amba Estate.
Amba Estate is an organic farm in the Uva Highlands of Sri Lanka. The farm is about a 30-minute drive from Ella, located in a small valley above the Ravana-Ella waterfalls, with views of Ella Rock and Lipton’s Seat. At Amba, they produce a range of artisan teas, coffee, spices, and preserves. They partner with the local community to support a variety of educational, economic, and environmental initiatives. (10% of Amba’s turnover goes to the employees).
When in Sri Lanka, you can spend the night in the old tea bungalows on the estate, learn more about organic farming and artisan tea, and enjoy our little corner of paradise. This is definitely recommended, we really enjoyed this oasis of peace.
